Bobby Korecky, Rusty Ryal Named PCL All-Stars

Posted by Erik F in Reno Aces , players , Pacific Coast League , AAA All-Star Game

from milb.com:

Korecky and Ryal, the first Triple-A All-Stars in Aces franchise history, are two of 28 players chosen to represent the Pacific Coast League in the 22nd-annual Triple-A All-Star Game. Players were selected by fans, media and managers from each club.

Korecky, 29, has been the anchor of a solid Reno bullpen throughout the first two-plus months of the season. Reno's closer leads all Arizona Diamondbacks minor leaguers with 12 saves on the season through the end of June.

[...]

Ryal, 26, has been one of Reno's most consistent and versatile players in his first season at the Triple-A level. Through the end of June, Ryal batted .286 with a team-leading 10 home runs and 47 RBIs, splitting time among second base, third base and shortstop.

Aces Above .500 for First Time at 37-36

Posted by Erik F in Reno Aces , games

From milb.com:

Josh Whitesell blasted a two-run home run in the seventh inning Thursday night, unlocking a 6-6 tie and lifting Reno to its sixth-straight victory, an 8-6 win over Portland at PGE Park.

The Beavers posted three runs in the fifth, tying the score at six apiece. In the seventh, though, that deadlock was undone, as Whitesell hammered a Jonathan Ellis offering deep over the wall in right to put the Aces on top 8-6. The Aces bullpen would make the lead stand up, and Reno jumped above the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Aces, 51s Kick Off Silver State Diamond Challenge Tonight

Posted by Erik F in Reno Aces , promotions , Las Vegas 51s

Aces press release:

It’s been more than a century since shots rang out between the north and south, but this year the rivalry is resurrected in the form of home runs, strikeouts and RBIs as the Reno Aces and Las Vegas 51s face off in Triple-A Pacific Coast League play.

The Las Vegas 51s and the Reno Aces have developed the Silver State Diamond Challenge and accompanying trophy to add to the excitement of the new intrastate rivalry each summer.

“The City of Reno and all of Northern Nevada embrace the Aces,” said Reno Mayor Bob Cashell. “We are excited about our inaugural season in the Pacific Coast League, especially the season challenge with our neighbors to the south. I want to remind Oscar that the North won the last time the two sides did battle.”

The season series between the two teams will begin on Monday, June 15 at Aces Ballpark in Reno. The 16-game series will conclude on August 30 at Cashman Field in Las Vegas. If the season series is tied after 16 games, the Silver State Diamond Challenge winner will be determined in true Nevada style with a draw of the cards.

“It is great to welcome professional baseball to Northern Nevada and we wish the Aces the best of luck this year – except when their playing the 51s of course,” said Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman. “I think this challenge is great for all the baseball fans in the state and I look forward to watching the action on the field.”

In addition to the Diamond Challenge, Mayors Goodman and Cashell have placed their own wager in which the losing city’s Mayor will wear the other team’s jersey for a full day of city business – including a city council meeting. The Mayors have also agreed to the losing Mayor personally donating $100 per game for the difference in wins from the season series to the winning Mayor’s charity of choice.
